About Cynthia
My Story
Cynthia Backer, MAT, MIH, RN, has worked in healthcare and education settings for 42 years. She is a published author, speaks nationally and teaches classes including resilience and wellness strategies for children and adults. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Olaf College, Masters in Art of Teaching from Lewis & Clark College and Master of Integrative Health from National University. Her nursing career has encompassed inpatient and community pediatrics, home care, hospice, ambulatory care, coaching and education. Cynthia’s education career has also included teaching students in elementary and middle schools, community colleges, and universities. She also started an online gluten-free/vegan bakery.
She has served as a board member with the Oregon Holistic Nursing Association and Portland Chapter of the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine, leader for the Oregon Chapter of the American Holistic Nurses Association, and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Cynthia’s certifications include AHNCC holistic nurse/nurse coach (HWNC-BC), National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching coach (NBC-HWC), Reiki Master and Healing Touch Practitioner (CHTP).
Cynthia lives in Portland, Oregon and enjoys family/friends, traveling, yoga, quilting and spending time in nature. She is especially passionate about rocks and baking. She has two grown daughters and two cats.
